Smoking

My lambretta is smoking very badly on startup my neighbours have commented
Also thick black oil between exhaust an cone

It does sound like the the carburettor is leaking into the crankcase, (float needle dirty or worn). Petrol will settle into the crank area, causing tricky starting and revs slow to pick up. If so then smoke clears a little while after it starts. However you can get lots of smoke if the main oil seal, crankcase to gearbox has failed. If it has you will find that the gearbox oil is disappearing.

Agree with above but worn rings might also be a cause.......or even an old exhaust that needs a good clean.

Only a couple of hundred miles on cylinder so should be good
It's a fran speed race pipe.
Lot of thick black oil where end can attaches

How much 2T oil are you putting in and is your jetting correct?

will the engine tickover if you put your hand over the exhaust ? (quick way of checking if engine seals gone) should cut out engine but if it still idles you've got a seal gone

It seems ok after a couple of miles running . Just the initial start/warmup

I used to get oil between exhaust and end can on franspeed took apart cleaned end of exhaust put clear silicone on end of exhaust (not in the exhaust) pushed end can back on cut excess of when dry seems ok so far
