Looks like an LI housing with a home made bulb holder.

GP unit is plastic with ribs on the top running front to back.

The lens should sit more parallel to the line of the rear of the frame.

My money is on the original GP light housing cracking in line with the mounting screws/bolts, which was so common that they changed the arrangement on late GPs to have rubber mount fixings and reverted back to a rubber between light unit and frame. Most of the original units I've had have been cracked so I imagine that someone replaced a cracked plastic original with an earlier alloy housing, painted black.

I have seen some of the stick out Spanish type with a smooth plastic top like that.

I think there was one on the SLAG group for sale recently.

The original black plastic units are starting to fetch some good money now at least 50 odd quid - going on recent eBay sales. There aren't many good copies but Bosatta were the company that made original replacement parts and are still available. The one I have has a ribbing below the red lens which the original did not. CEV original red lens also fetch quite good money when they come up.

Hi Tom.

Unless somebody knows different, I believe that to be a rare, black plastic moulded rear light unit as available in the late 60's to suit the DL/GP range. That doesn't prove they were OEM fitted, but I believe their scarcity would mean that they were not 'after market' replacements, certainly not in the UK.

They existed way before the Spanish decided to place their own aesthetically challenged modifications on to the original Innocenti Series III range.

In my area, because they were smooth or ‘de-ribbed’ they were considered prized possessions.

Since 1973, I've personally only ever seen a few of these in my time with Lambrettas. I have one left but @ least a couple of mine have defected to the trackside during racing, the last @ Darley Moor 2013.

Best Regards

I have seen a couple of these on Spanish series 80's and I have a new old stock one that I got from a shop in Spain. I will and see if it has a manufacturers mark.

So have you seen a "black plastic moulded rear light unit" on Spanish scooters?

They appear very similar to the later Jet units. However, the Spanish ones are steel & deeper, front to back.

The black plastic moulded rear light unit that I have to hand has the following moulded in to the inside as though the mould was stamped:

F. B. 2063

I had one of these fitted to my wreck of a GP when I got it but took it off in preference to a standard style one as the festoon bulbs kept blowing, so it now sits in the box with all the other odd stuff I replaced. I was told on here that it was probably an after market unit but I don't know.

Yes I know that the jets and specials were fitted with the metal type and hold the gonnelli type rear light,
some series 80s; and linces were also fitted with metal type light and some were fitted with the GP back light made by CEV with the ribs on top of the black plastic casing .

the ones I am talking of are the same as the one fitted to the GP above and is made of plastic and is smooth on top.
I thought it was just a Spanish thing as I have only seen it on Spanish scoots . like I said I will check the one I have and see if the number matches yours.
of the ones I have seen 2 were black and one was red. I presumed they were an aftermarket item.
