Kickstart Advice Please....

Postby Hughieboy » Sun May 31, 2015 9:59 pm

I wonder if anyone can advise me on a kickstart problem I have.

Series 2 Li with Series 3 engine and the stop plate sits a little below the stop on the engine casing and there also seems to be a couple of inches play before it engages. If I turn it one spline up it sits in the stop and grinds when the engines running.

I've read several answers on here already about adjusting the ramp etc but I wanted to work out whether this is the problem or whether it maybe has the wrong kickstart lever on it before I start looking further into it. I'm aware there are kickstarts available to fit S3 engines with the width to clear S2 rear foot boards so if this is one then I guess adjustment is needed. However, I was wondering could it be a standard S2 kickstart and if it is would this explain it sitting low?

I hope that all makes sense and I'd greatly appreciate any advice from anyone who knows better than me!

Thanks in advance.

If the kickstart is one designed for this use it will clear the series 2 footboard if its a series 2 one they generally dont have the tab to locate with the side case.
Try removing the rubber bung on the side case when its just rubbing, it may clear it then as it will go up a bit higher. Its the lazy route as you can trim a bit off the bung and still have a soft stop. if not sidecase off. adjust the ramp so the pin is just on the point of dropping down the ramp but fully retracted. that way as soon as the lever starts to go down its out and engaging giving you a full stroke.

Thanks, that gives me the answer I needed.

Side case off and adjustment needed methinks!

Cheers!

check the plunger too, cos in the past I've noticed some have the tapped hole in slightly differing places :o

Thanks..

I haven't done it before so I'll get the casing off and I'll hopefully be able to see what you mean :)
