Having recently taken an angle grinder to a Vega exhaust, I thought I'd do the same with my beloved box pipe which had gone a bit rattly and noisy.

First of all, let me say I'm not posting this as a criticism of the exhaust. It's been up and down the country many times and all the way to Switzerland and back over the last 3 years.

The reason I keep getting it welded up is because I think it's boss for my engine and carb The reason I'm posting these pictures is just to show a little insight into what's in these pipes.

This was 2014 and the first need for welding skills:

What has happened here is that the plate has fractured and was rattling around. Some folk would have consigned it to the bin by now (or stuck it on ebay!), not me, I like a challenge. Pity I can't weld though.

Clean metal and a half decent mig welder and you would be surprised how easy it is.

Mig welding is only classed as a semi professional skill. Arc, Gas and Tig welding all take a little more skill and practice, where Mig is very easy to pick up.

And you can buy one for half the cost of buying another of those box pipes....Good to see you are making good use of that angle grinder

One day I do propose to learn to weld, just not now. I have a selection of old box pipes in the back of the garage that have loose baffle plates. I can practice on them

I can't believe that I have struggled with a dremel for so many years when an angle grinder does it in seconds.

For anyone thinking of cutting and welding. Theses can be a useful tool when cutting up exhausts.

Ebay....do a search air powered cut off tools. From about £15 and upwards to a couple of hundred pounds.

He'd have to add a decent compressor to his Christmas or maybe Fathers Day list
