ScootRs disc brake/speedo drive issue

Hello. I had a new ScootRs disc fitted and ever since, the speedo hasn't worked. I have attached a drill to the speedo (as per a previous post) and the dial works. I have spun the front wheel with the headset off and the cable turns. Speaking to someone, they tell me that it can be tricky to line the drive wheel up with the drive shaft and so, although the cable turns, it hasn't got enough 'umff'' to turn the dial on the speedo. Any views on this? I'd like to get this working rather than lay out for a Sip Speedo. All parts new, speedo from Cam Lam. Odo doesn't move either. Cheers

check the nylon worm drive on the hub it may be slightly loose so it slips under load. try running a little superglue between it and the hub that may do the job

I ve had a good degree of success with the cheap metal ones.

My scootrs one in a TS1 was tricky but has been reliable - to get it right the ring had to be set slightly proud of the hub casting where normally it would be flush - once I realised this it just kept tapping it down then trying to line it up with the drive until they meshed. I did have to put a small washer on top of the drive where it goes into the hub again to make sure the mesh was perfect.

finally once it was all set up took it I stripped it and caked the two meshing parts in grinding paste rebuilt it and for about 10 minutes spun the hub to make sure the two metal meshing surfaces were perfect.
(I did fully cleaned it before it went back into use)

I did all this with hub out of the forks

also check the cable lengths both inner and outer

Its been very reliable ........kiss of death !

Cheers all. Hacksaw out first before attacking the ring methinks!

Hi I've just fitted a scoots outboard disc, when I fit the drive it turns if I turn the wheel but when I fit the chrome bush/retainer it bottoms out and sits about 3 mm proud. I think the result is it traps the drive and stops it turning . Anyone know if I should be able to use the original speedo drive or do I need to get a shorter version. It's a S 2 by the way

Just done mine today. Measure it up; I did and discovered that the inner was not engaging the drive. Cut 2 coils off the outer and success.

I've tried that but still didn't work, looks like there is enough of the inner to engage with the drive but not sure why the retainer is bottoming out. Also when I take the drive out and try the retainer on its own it fits all the way and doesn't bottom out.

Have you tried it with the cable in the drive assembly and the retainer removed ?
Have you got the parts from your old hub?

Think I've sorted it just added a couple of washers to the retainer and seems ok although not tried it on the road yet.
Thanks all..

Can someone explain what the split olive does and where it should be positioned on the outer cable please

It fits at the bottom where the outer sleeve with the knurled nut that slides over the cable and fits to the hub, so remove a bit of the outer sleeve off the cable outer and it fits onto the metal part of the cable outer. Not the greatest description I know but hope that helps.
Cheers

With my ScootRS front disc brake, I had an intermittent speedo reading.
Turned out that the speedo drive gear I sir the hub ( large gear interference fit) had become loose.
Removed it, cleaned up and super glued it in place - jobs a goo dun.
Now got a smooth speedo reading and it performs as Innocenti intended, no wiper arm speedo needle for me!

Cheers

Ady
