Hi all,
My mate is getting a Lambretta from India, the serial which is 056251, the Indian chap says he is going to turn this bike into a TV 200, but the Indian chap says it is a GP. Can anybody tell me if this bike is a gp or LI, and if it is a LI would it need much work to stance form it into a TV 200.
Cheers
Stag

There's loads of horror story's of restos being done in India.....Scootering magazine did an article a few years ago where they ordered a 'tv200' from a 'restorer/scooter builder' in India ..... It was a death trap.. And looked shite... Gp headset etc... Piss poor AND dangerous

A prefix to the number and or a picture of the frame number would helpful... Indian produced scooters were made all over the place and frame numbers are all over the place- it's difficult to tell what it is by just the number unlike Spanish or Italian ,
The Indians never built s3 li, TV,sx etc (although there is very rare cases of people privately importing them), they only built gp's (sil) and series2s (api) ... So the chances are it's a gp ... Which means not only will it have to extend (cut and shut /weld) the fork tude/frame ( and forks?!) but they will have to fit s3 legshields, horncast and headset (and mudguard) - which the Indians never produced.... Leading me to think where will they get them from??....

I wouldn't part with one single penny till I had seen the scooter in the flesh and got a dealer/mechanic to give it a damn good looking at a know that!

It could be a 78/79 GP125/150 or an even earlier API LI 150 but as said, the full frame number would be required to verify it exactly,

If on a budget just buy an S3 Li or an SIL GP from the Uk with MOT, etc. You'll know it's safe (well at the time of the MOT anyway), easier to go back to the seller if any issues and it will be what it is. I can never understand folks who try and take one model and attempt to make it look like a different one

If it sounds too good, how would you make a gp look like a tv heavens knows but why would you try, God knows what panel beating and welding skills will be required in deepest Dehli workshops to morph this one, guess the filler and paint will hide any true horrors, good luck bruv, rather you than me

Talking to a mechanic who bought a GP from India and asked me if I'd take a look.
Should have taken some pictures as most people wouldn't believe the state of it. You
couldn't have bent wire the shape of the frame, the side panels were that heavy and thick
you knew something wasn't quite right.Paintwork was that bad it had to be re-done and
the more you looked the more you found.Couldn't stop looking,Li front mudguard etc., etc.
He paid £450 and by the time the shipping, import duty and port charges were added it was
the thick end of £1500.To be honest if he bust it and sold it for parts he'd have been lucky
to get the original £450 back.
Remember chop shop, even Leepu and Bernie wouldn't have touched this one

Mind the crate it came in was well made though.
