Hey all, well further to my previous thread at viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3537 were i have decided to follow in peejays footsteps ive made progress! It's finally all up and running except for one small issue. I cant seem to get the dash light to work

Basically I bought one of these as the load was too low for normal relays



So, the problem with the dash light is that it works really well when indicating, but when not indicating is still wants to flash but not as bright and I can't figure out what I am doing wrong

I've wired from battery, to fuse to the + then from the L to the switch where then I can switch the power to each side, I was under the impression I could wire my led dash warning light to the - pin and then to earth.

my set up was with a warning light for each side so was easy to wire up and works perfectly.
i can see that it has to be wired differently in your case, i'm sure an electrical specialist will come along shortly

Try putting the minus connection to ground that should then give you an on off supply to your switch, you then feed that to the left or right lights. The single LED is not that easy, you will need to get a couple of diodes from Maplins take a feed from the left side and the right side to your LED but put the Diode in each line. The diode only lets the power through one way, so letsa the power through to the LED and ground. The diode on the other side stops the power feeding back and flashing the other side.
At the moment your LED is on the ground side of the flasher so its flashing all the time

Monty, i dont get the off supply to the switch part i have to confess, though could be me as ive just woke up after my night shift LOL.

The indicators work fine, it's just the dash bulb being annoying, so Im thinking if i basically leave the relay out of the equation with it, just take the feeds using the diodes inline that should do the job.

You say it all works with the LED connected to the minus side of the flasher. I'm sure if you remove that connection they will stop working. Get them working without the LED. The LED is acting as the earth so it's flashing.
look at the diode as a one way valve on a water supply. It lets power through the to the LED from the right hand side through the diode to the LED but it cannot then go back down the wire going to the left side. Without the diode the left side indicators will even though you selected right.

I dont think my brain was awake enough after a night shift but decided to get to maplins and spend a whole £1 buying two diodes and after a lotta head scratching etc I now have indicators plus the dash light plus a buzzer all working correctly!!!!!

As a matter of interest was the L terminal not for the indicator warning light?
I am just about to wire up a similar system using the same relay unit, as I thought it would do away with the need for diodes.
If that is not the case I might as well us a 2 terminal relay and a couple of diodes.

Very hard to find a drawing for this relay and it seems there are lots of 3 pin variants. This is a digital LED one and has a +& - so without any more info that's what I would connect. I did a search for 3 pin flasher wiring and came up with dozens of variations. The benefit is that the flash rate won't be affected by load so it will work with LEDs or any load up
edit this may help maybe you can do it without diodes ignore the part on the right unless you want to add another flasher to have hazards

Jono, I thought L would be for the warning light but it's not, its for load ie that goes to the indicator switch. I havent even wired up the negative to anything and it's all working.

Yeah i couldnt believe the different diagrams out there, it was ridiculous.

I'd say the one I have ended up using is the bottom one ie
