Electronic ignition conversion help!

help please,

Someone fitted a 12v electronic conversion to my early s3 li 150 and everytime she starts running after a small time she dies and I find I have no spark from the plug, replacing the cdi unit rectifies the lack of spark but I have gone through 5 cdi units now! Is this just a wiring fault or could it be a fault with the stator plate? Bit of a novice so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It could be a lot of things but the most common fault is a faulty LT coil on the stator plate. You could do some tests if you have access to a meter to measure the coil resistance.

I'd eliminate any wiring issues first by trying it with the green loom wire disconnected from the cdi.
Easy check and takes any intermittent problems out of the equation.

Good tip 8-)

Also, re the CDI's, have you tried any of them again? Just wondering as LT coils often fail due to a break in the windings which can be intermittent, the engine will sometimes fire up after a short break. Worth checking just in case. In my experience, CDI's fail and stay failed.
