Clutch cable

Does it make any difference if the clutch cable goes over the engine mount rather than underneath

When I bought my GP the clutch and gear cables were over the engine mounting.The clutch cable felt jerky when pulled in and they all appeared to have no slack in the outer cables. It is possible that any movement of the engine might make the cables tighter.Anyway I changed the cables to friction free and ran them under the mounting and they had more slack in the outer cables.

I am finding the clutch lever quite heavy so was thinking this may have something to do with it
Have had one inner snap at lever end
