Only starts with NO air filter fitted !?

Postby Dobo » Mon Aug 24, 2015 4:55 pm

I have a RamAir filter and expansion exhaust, Jetex 22 carb, has been running ok! Now I run for short distance and it chokes up, smokes . . . choke is fine and OFF. Stop and remove RamAir and off we go. Why on earth is this happening guys. Any suggestions please?

Yes tried with panels off . . . no joy. The RamAir is clean! Don't know about the cylinder or rings! How would that work anyway?

If removing the filter makes it "fly" then the filter is restricting air excessively. Similar to putting your hand over an open carb....it's choking it. Clean/ wash/ replace the filter would be my first port of call

Hi guys, thanks for responses. I got it wrong originally 'cos the scoot starts ok, ran for a mile-ish then choked up when we slowed down! I've given the RamAir a good clean in petrol, checked the plug and tried once more. Same result, choking and black smoke when we come to a stop!? HELP.
