Can i put this in my engine?

I normally use ST90 gear oil in my engine but I have this bottle of unopened SAE30 engine oil in my shed which I think is the equivalent........am I correct and can I put it in my engine?

ST90 is specified as SAE90, so no.
Different viscosity (thickness)
I found this to be the best price at the moment.

Probably.
Just to be controversial, you'd be surprised what a wet clutch gearbox will tolerate. Do bear in mind that Lambretta engines were conceived long ago & the only subsequent research has been by enthusiasts.
I will not divulge what I have used in case it all goes t*ts up for you or anybody else, but the information is on the World Wide Web for everybody to see.
Like you, I just happened to have a load of a fluid left over & researched it, tried it & was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't SAE 30 though.

I use SAE 30 in mine with a LTH 7 plate clutch and at c.4000 miles of heavy use with 26bhp/22 ftlb of torque it's fine. Just change it regularly.
On normal lambretta clutch/plates I stick to SAE 90

I would use it to flush out the old oil before putting in the new, remembering to drain at an angle so all the old gunk flows out.
that way it doesnt go to waste and you use the correct oil

I used putoline 75 light gear oil with my lth 7 plate and clutch felt very smooth
But I was advised to use 10/40 it now feels stiffer

ST90 is not SAE 90 - completely different standards.
There was a discussion on the other forum about this at some point.
Sure it's something to do with the difference between GEAR oil and ENGINE oil.

CASTROL ST90
Monograde SAE90 gear oil for gearboxes and differentials where a low EP gear oil is specified.
Copied and pasted From Castrols own web site.

SAE is a viscosity of the oil according to the Society of Automotive Engineers. So all SAE 90 really means is it's thicker that SAE 80 not what it's particular application is. The Lambretta gearbox has straight cut gears that don't have so much tooth contact as some modern gearboxes with helical cut ones so perhaps older gear oils should be used. I use SUTO (Super Universal Tractor Oil ) in my gearbox, it's suitable for all gearboxes and oil immersed brakes and clutches and it mixes well with petrol
