Hello,
I have recently purchased a scooter on the internet. The side panels were not fitted and I had to purchase some springs. I wonder if someone could be good enough to take a photo of their GP/DL springs from the inside showing how they sit/attach in the metal bracket when the panels are not on as I seem to be having some trouble (I think there is some warping of the area where the number plate goes on). Also if you could take a photo of the spring sitting in a panel (like through the bike from the opposite side) that would also be really helpful!!

The MB stainless ones are good quality

I agree with hullygully. I bought stainless steel clips and one broke first time I used it. I think they are too brittle for bending to the shape. To be fair to the supplier he did refund my money and send me a free pair of mild steel clips which have been spot on. He said he had broken some recently.

I already have bought the stainless steel ones unfortunately, but will take what you say on board and possibly change them out in future.

That's how I thought they should sit, but I haven't been able to stop them crossing in the middle, I think there is too much room for them to move around. I am heading out to the garage to work on it with the rubber hammer!

You can cut out a bit of rubber to fit between the bracket and frame makes a better fit

I'm in the process of making the side panels fit correctly as they were both transported off the bike and I think they were bent slightly in transport (unfortunately I've only just noticed this so have no real come-back to the transportation company).

Are the spring supposed to fit snuggly in the side panel lips or do they barely sit in? When I get it on the panel I've just bent into shape it feels as if it will pop out at anytime.

You can bend the middle ends out a bit to stop them crossing and the definitely should be a strong sprung fit into the lip on the panel. It should be strong enough to pull the panel down into the arch slightly and secure it firmly.

Thanks Ross, one side is ok now. I need to work on the other a bit more.

Once you get them where you want, you can slip a piece of rubber fuel pipe over the two ends that serves as a cushion between them & the frame. It also keeps them 'in sync' which some riders may see as a problem. It would be minor hassle in the event of a puncture & result in having to take the RH panel of as well......

Stainless steel comes in loads of grades but the cheaper stuff likely to be used for panel clips is most probably going to break.

Given the number of issues people have had with stainless springs surely it would be better to change them out now, i.e before one of your side panels goes sliding down the road, than after?

my st/steel one's didn't snap they kept loosing they're springy-ness... spent more time looking down instead of on the road
