Preserving original scooter

Postby Scooter Paul » Thu Oct 15, 2015 12:42 pm

I'm doing a conserved restoration of a Series 2 Li. Where the paint has worn or been scraped away I'd like to use something to prevent any further rusting. I've used Waxoyl before but have seen Ankor wax and ACF50 recommended. Any thoughts on what's best?. I don't want to be reapplying too often.
Thanks, Paul

Paul

I have used Ankor Wax on my Series 2 and have been pleased with the result. It does seem to protect and stop any further rusting. I do however re apply once a year in areas which get the worst of the weather and so far all OK

Cheers

What about some kind of clear coat lacquer? A matt or satin finish would look good if you could get it.

Have a look at the link. Not tried it myself but it seems to be what you need.

I use Duck Oil and just give it a spray over every so often.

Thanks, I did look at the Frost site but didn't see this. Seems made for the job but out of stock. I'll give them a call.

I use ankor wax for places such as under legshields and mudguards but ACF 50 for everywhere else. Spray a little ACF50 on the visible areas and spread it around, this stuff not only inhibits corrosion but tends to cure it.

I use ACF50 on mine, reapply every month or so and it works great, no further rusting over the last 12 months, but it gives a slightly oily finish that gets everywhere and dulls the original paint.
