Connect the earth terminal of the battery to earth ( somewere on the engine case ) Connect the positive side of the battery to a bulb ( preferably a car headlight bulb and holder ) connect the other side of the bulb holder to the green wire that comes from the stator plate.

Whilst we are talking of checking timing. I have recently tried to use a strobe light on a LI 125 but it would not work, thinking it was the strobe fault I connected up to another scooter and it was fine. The only reason I could think of was the HT lead shielded the signal, anyone else encountered this.

My strobe plugs into the mains for its power and it has a metal cage type of fitting that goes onto the spark plug and the plug cap goes on top of that.If as I do you use an NGK plug and cap,I have to unscrew the nipple that goes on top of the plug for the cap to fit. When strobing I have to replace the nipple because sometimes the metal cage fitting doesn't make contact with the plug without it.I also change the plug cap for one that will fit on the fitting.
