Hi can anyone help,
Since taking carburettor apart to replace gaskets and clear out filter in banjo to remove a grit like substance i have been having problems starting back up again when warm. The carburettor is 26mm jetex. Even after replacing gaskets fuel is leaking from float chamber area from around one of the securing screws which is not good. I have also noticed quite alot of waste fuel collects in the air filter rubber hose. And after reading about this elsewhere some one mentioned drilling a small hole in the bottom of the hose to help to drain this away which i did, but doesnt seem to of made much difference. After strugggling to start it and much swearing and bordering on physical violence towards said scooter if i remove air hose from carburettor end it will start 1st kick no problem. Dont really want to have to go through this process every time ! The scooter is an Li 150 series 3 with stage 4 rayspeed 175 cylinder kit fitted and 42mm clubman. The scotter runs fine once started and plug looks a decent chocolate brown colour after a good run. Thanks in advance for any help.

I am wondering if your choke went back correctly adjusted. It may not be shut properly when warm ?

St George - I think you have it spot-on. I have a similar setup, 175, Clubman and Jetex 24, and also recently gave the carb a clean up. After refitting it, I had more difficult cold starting, and hot start-ups were a nightmare - I can't bump start with the alacrity I had a few Years back !

On further checking I discovered that the fault was the choke, which was stuck on due to to an accidental movement of the adjusting nut. Readjusted, checked that the plunger was doing the right thing, and Fixed! Now starting second kick again, warm or cold.

i wonder i have a 175 with clubman i came on here and asked the question and had different replays i changed the jetted for a dellorto new exhaust piston and rings electrics and so on still on a short or long journey once warm rubbish to start i am not good with mechanics so how do i check the choke sorry to sound stupid just don't want to spend any more money on which apart from that runs nice apart from i am know running in cheers in advance of any ideas thanks mark

I'm glad you asked that question I'm wondering if this is part of the problem with my non starter...? How do you know a choke is adjusted properly...???? When you can't see it...

Remove your air hose or remote filter and when you look at the carb there is a small hole to the right of the carb mouth. The choke plunger should be seen in blocking the hole (brass coloured). Put the choke on and you should see the brass plunger rise if it is functioning properly. The plunger can be stuck in either on or off positions as the metal housing is quite soft. This can also happen if the cable is not adjusted correctly. It is worth checking the black plastic base of the plunger as well as this may be worn meaning the choke jet does not get blocked off completely.

I going to look at this tomorrow in the daylight Tony.....I'm just wondering how the plunger can be seen blocking off the hole on the right when my choke is on the left side of the carb....again, not being obtuse....just probably thinking too much about it. I have a dellorto phbh 26

Hi Martin. I was thinking SH Delly carbs where the choke mechanism is on the right. On the PHBL where the choke mechanism is on the left I would assume it still works on the mechanism covering and uncovering the choke/starter jet I am just unsure where you can look to see if it is operating correctly.

Seems to be an ever increasing problem, stainless or welded tanks being the worst culprits.

Smaller particles will get thru the carb filter and quickly wear you piston, rings and bore.
In my experience spit back follows.
If you stripped the carb make sure you hooked the float needle in the little clip..

I had same problem for year tried everything, cured it by replacing fuel tap was dripping on when I thought it was switched off,always bugger to start warm,I also replaced and adjusted my choke proper, so it was one or other
