I've a long-standing friend who is looking to return to Scootering after a very long break. He has a lovely TV200, but wants to upgrade the inboard disc without it being too obvious. He also wants it to be return-able to original later.

I have suggested a clip-in hidden slave cylinder, and a remote master cylinder being the horn casting. He now wants to know where to buy it from. The problem is that I can't find anywhere to buy all the parts from one place.

OK, the clip-in slave cylinder by ScootRS seems a gimme, but they do not do the remote reservoir.
The Beedspeed Grimeca master cylinder is a good price, but you don't get the mounting plate.
A hose needs to be manufactured.

Is there not somewhere where he can all the parts in one place?

I have noticed people putting them behind the horn casting but what about checking the fluid level it's a bit of a rave removing the casting.

I have not had to top-up the fluid in my front brake since 2009, so it is not a huge consideration.

Another possibility? grabbed my attention a while back due to being quite discreet , unfortunately I cannot speak from experience, like I say , just something I saw and thought looked quite good.

chasspeed does the full kit on a billet bracket. Very well made, not the cheapest solution but well worth it.

Heard some good feedback on those myself although no experience personally. Oiltek do make some nice stuff.

That's very true they don't they usually only need topping up to allow for brake pad wear but what about leakage.

The reservoir takes care of that. I'd recommend a copy hrc one from eBay. 90% of club racers use them on the back brake.

Your friend should try the standard inboard disc first.New pads,a thicker cable from scooter restorations and reverse pull it.I have one on my series 3 and it works really well.

Standard 200 engine. I would agree with the reverse pull option thicker cable. As I am sure you are aware, Martin, they take a bit of fettling and I ended up replacing my disk too, but it stopped really well on my, pretty quick, GT186.

On my TS1, I have the CS Engineering inboard held in by the circlip but my Speedfight master cylinder is on the headset. Whilst I have never had to top up a master cylinder, my concern would be the inability to quickly get to where the cable meets the pivot to depress the brake. Also, this would, I feel, need some pfaffing about to get to work properly.

I am not speaking from experience on this part mind, just hearsay. Good luck

I have the Chasspeed type under my horncasting of my TV175 III so it will also fit the TV200.

Whilst this debate centres upon the merits (or not) of remote cylinders & their location on the scooter, please bear in mind the following:

There are two main choices of brake fluid:

Glycol based fluids are hydroscopic so absorb water. However they are the industry norm & the only types available & suitable for racing.

Silicone based fluids are not hydroscopic but are twice as compressible as glycol based fluids.



Silicone based fluids are less likely to contribute ‘feel’ to brakes, possibly an element that may be desired by the sporting rider. Any ‘feel’ almost certainly will have been compromised by utilising a Bowden cable before the master cylinder is even operated.

Silicone based fluids have not been developed for, or intended for, use in race applications.



All conventional brake fluids deteriorate during use.

It is strongly recommended that glycol based fluids should be changed every two years in the absence of any manufacturers’ service intervals.

Please respect why I have submitted this information. I believe that the information is correct but apologise if there are any errors or out-dated information. My stance is neutral on the subject of remote reservoirs, though I have an opinion. I choose not to state it in this respect, as my concern is that people remain safe, whatever their individual choice.

Paul (Storkfoot), thanks for reminding me that Chris Sadd does a conversion for this.

Dave Tomo, thanks for the lead on the Oiltek solution. My only concern is that you must still need somewhere to mount the reservoir that they supply.

David, if you have a leak in the braking system, then you need to fix the leak, not top up the level. Hydraulic systems must not leak.

Ive gone with chasspeed cnc bracket and all the trimmings as im also going back to an original look on my gp ,I also have a home made bracket and grimica mastercylinder on my tv2

hi martin if your friend hasn't gone for chasspeed bracket I do have a bracket to suit series 3 and grimecia cylinder I would pm you but don't know how cheers tony
