Hi All,
After putting my front wheel back on after fitting new brakes , I have noticed the space between the wheels and fork links, is larger at one side that the other, I have tried to space them the way they should be, but no joy. GP with drums any tips.

This might be a silly question, but I assume it wasn't offset before you too the wheel off, because you didn't check before you took it off. In your shoes, I doubt if I would have checked before removing the front wheel.

A grown-up will be along in a minute with some proper advice.....

No i never bothered my arse. I did not pay attention to see what it was like before removal. Would any body recommend shimming the spindle with washers to try and centralise the wheel.

When you rebuild the front drum,the axle goes through and you fit a washer followed by a nut on both sides,you then fit the drum into the links followed by a link washer (locating washer) and dome nut on both sides.

Quite right too Kenny.

My reason for asking is whether the scooter handled ok before, even though the wheel appears out of alignment.

My concern is that the offset wheel maybe more a symptom of bent forks or bent frame. If so, the handling could be the wrong. The problem can sometime be that you have nothing to compare it with, if you only have one scooter on the road. A good mate of mine had a very dodgy set of forks in his GP and eventually addressed the issue with the help of John at Jahspeed. After he got the scooter back, he could not understand how he could have ridden it so much in the past with such a fault present. The repaired scooter was a revelation compared to the faulty forks (bearings) of before.

Don't be too concerned about this, as offset front wheels is an issue that has been discussed before on this forum and the issue has NOT been bent framework.

Thanks for the comments. When it ever gets out of my workshop I will road test her, and see how she goes, i thought she was steering ok before, as there was nothing to make me concerned. Paul that is exactly how I fitted the wheel, with the washers in the recess , any other ideas to sort this problem out. Maybe if i try and get one side of the wheel, link out a bit to line up. Any thoughts.
