Am I correct in thinking the SIL GP150`s with the smaller Italian size GP headset and good fitting panel work were all the earlier models ie 78/79 ? Ive got one Ive looked at buying, but the chassis number has the *00* after the 22/0, which Ive been led to believe is later types 80`s onward, is there a SIL aficionado on here that can help cheers ?

Mike the "00" after the 22/0 is a country identifier. "00" is an unused one so I am not sure where this one was bound for. I am no expert on the body work changes etc but I have certainly dated Indian GP's with the identifier as early as 1978 and possibly earlier without going through hundreds of records,

Hi Mike,
The Indian Lambretta guide states that early Vijai were compatible with Italian and late vijai were not but does not give year of change.I have a 1979 MKI and a 1986 MKII.The MKII has a ribbed tool box door came with a turning mudguard and a makuni carb .Also the MKII has a top head set with mounting holes for mirrors.The final drive for a MKII is 4.82 similar to a 200.The MKII was 12volt.Whereas the MKI has a flat tool box door came with a fixed mudguard a jetex carb and 6 and 12volt stator (now 12v with wassell).The final drive is 5.65 .I have fitted a MKII headset top on the MKI because I have fitted some mirrors.Bear in mind that these are 30+years old have come from India so may not be original and may have some interesting bodges.
The bodge I particularly liked on my MKI was they had packed the cush drive spring with a magneto oil seal to increase the tension of the spring.Look for rust by pulling off legshield rubbers and rubber on frame loop, rust on top of fork and of course condition of frame tube and out riggers.They can all be fixed I have put two wrecks back on the road and I am an amateur
