Rear hub

advice please
Stripping a bike I recently bought for paint and when I came to take the rear wheel off I noticed that two of the studs had been replaced with flat headed bolts. Should have took a pic! Anyway should I replace the hub for a new one? If so who is making/ selling the best? Or is the hub still serviceable?

You're right Paul, you should have taken a photo.

If the bolts can be removed and replaced with the correct stud, then it probably can be used safely. I fear that when those bolts are removed, you may find that the thread in the hub lug has been damaged, but you might be surprised. Make sure you buy good studs, because there are some out there which appear to be made of cheese.

If you are looking for a replacement, the Scootopia hub sounds good.

Arent the hub studs left hand thread though? Been ages since I replaced one to be fair so could be wrong.

Forgot to say, needed a new hub due to worn splines only 6 months ago myself, couldn't get a scootopia one as out of stock so got the next best thing, sil one from scooter restorations, it's spot on and Ive used indian ones in the past with no issues ( the one it replaced was an fa italia)

Its worth checking the back of your engine casing because if the bolt heads were proud of the rim they may have worn a groove in the casing.

Nothing wrong with UNI ones from AF's. The last SIL one's I bought, one was oval and the other cracked the liner after a few months.

I've heard this a few times now, can I ask was the SIL hub bought from the main UK SIL importer/dealer? (As I stock these on the LCGB Club Shop and not had this issue come back to me with the SIL hubs that I've sold through the Club Shop)?

Can't disagree with this recommendation, sold quite a few through the LCGB Club Shop and carry a spare UNI hub when travelling to rallies on the scoot.

Simon Carries a large range of Get you home spares oi the club shop which is on sale when attending club events when no dealers are there and some larger events

Yes the SIL hubs were from the big dealer in Nottingham. They replaced the oval one with the one that cracked but after that I bought UNI as certain race teams use them. I was probably just unlucky as I know plenty that use them no probs.

If you can imagine the types of spares that you might need to buy at a rally to get you home, these are what I keep in stock and carry with me alongside all the usual clothing, badges and stickers, etc. Including:

Rear Hubs, Rims, Inner tubes and Tyres
Plugs, Plug caps and HT Lead
Throttle, Gear and Clutch Cables (inners and complete Nylon Lined cables), Threaded Rear Brake Cables
Clutch Kits - 4 and 5 plate, as well as replacement Clutch Plates, Circlips and Springs
Carb Rubbers, Drain plugs, Exhaust Gaskets, CDI Units and Disc Brake Pads
Electronic Stators, Std and Lightened Flywheels
Levers, Trunnions and Exhaust Springs
Barrels Stud Sets and Bearing Sets
Petrol Tank caps, Straps and Trunnions
Rear Shockers and Reed Valve Petals/Gaskets
Various Oils - Gear and 2 Stroke (Semi and Full Synthetic)
Nuts, Bolts, Woodruff Keys, Stainless and Fibre Washers
Exhaust Nuts and Studs, Rear Hub Stubs and Locking kits
Plus numerous other stuff that I've forgot that I have in the van!!!

All these spares are what the BSM winners & riding companions, my riding partners and myself use on our own Lambretta's. These aren't the top end expensive parts, but neither are they the cheap and cheerful 'use once and replace' parts that are available out there. :shock:

I don't have a massive amount of parts at any one time, (at the AGM I confirmed that stock levels were around £5,000 worth of spares), as I don't consider that it's appropriate that the LCGB becomes a scooter parts dealer in its own right.

The Get You Home Spares service came about as for many of the Affiliated Club Events, and Members Rallies, it hasn't (until recently) been worthwhile for a dealer to be in support of these events all weekend, however with upwards of 400 lambretta riders getting to some of these events now, this situation may be under review..!!! ;)

I also recently seen that the VCB are looking to provide a similar service to their members at events.
