MIRROR OPTIONS

Hi all

I'm using stadium folding leg shield mirrors on my scoots. They are not brilliant tbh, they vibrate and don't have a great field of vision.

Are there any other recommendations for either leg shield or a headset mirror that actually works? Photo would be good

Cheers all

Steve

If you have a leg shield tool box you can use a car wing mirror they dont shake like the Stadium ones, You will need a left hand side one on the right side
An arty farty pic someone took not the best of the mirror but you get the idea

I've got one of these on my Eibar, far better than a Stadium kick out mirror. Only thing I don't like is that you have to tighten the thing just right, too loose and it moves when you ride along, too tight and it impacts the operation of the front brake level.

I fitted a clip on mirror for the trip to Austria. When I put the panniers on the panels, I could see a thing.

Handlebar mirrors are the way forward.

Lambretta restore ones get my vote. Have one on my curry burner and will be getting one for my 125special too.

I think you will always get some vibration on any mirror to be honest, though it depends on the engine setup / speed you do too.
Ive had various over the years but finally settled on a bar end mirror on the right which folds away if necessary.

I have to say I really like those legshields mirrors. I have used them for the last 5 years and find they vibrate less than all handlebar ones including using the re-store ones (except motorbike type ones attached to the master cylinder housing). The downside is having to look down, not forward.

I would never totally rely on any mirror in terms of field of vision.

I often see these threads and each to their own but i would personally never use that type of mirror for looking behind. There's no substitute for proper physical life saver look back in any circumstance.

And they look s*#t ................oh there's me scooter product tourettes coming out again ...its getting very bad lately....

Thanks all - the restore one arrived today and I will give it a try - just have to say that I doubt anyone would use a mirror as a substitute for a lifesaver - for me it provide an extra awareness

My Series 3 has a pair of cheap, round clip-on leg shield mirrors.
With the flat mirror glass, your field of view is Very limited so I bought a pair of full size stick-on convex wide view mirror glasses and stuck these directly on to the mirrors.
Now have a pair of good wide view mirrors, of course the images are closer than they appear so as soon as you see a car, bike, scooter in mirror then just look over shoulder to get a better idea of how far away they are.

Works for me and remember that if riding on the continent, at least one if not a pair of rear view mirrors is a legal requirement.

Cheers

Ady

is this the mirror head you are using Steve?
i've used them for many years and found them brill, i find constantly looking over my shoulder a real pain and just sends me all over the road. left hand one particularly usefull for seeing what's coming down the sliproad when riding on motorways.

personal choice i know.

Hi peejay

Yes that's the one but interestingly my mirror is 90 deg rotated so it sticks out rather than up. I will try it your way and see if it's any better

Thanks
Steve

hi Steve
i did try it the other way thinking that the further out it was the better it would be, not so.
i appreciate that you do have to look down rather than ahead but i don't give that a thought now :)

only downside is if you fit pannier bags then it's useless.

Perhaps thats why I do have a small amount of vibration on mine then as I have it out horizontal, but I really prefer it like that, can see more of the lanes behind me at a glance, of course being on the end of handlebars probably has a bit to do with it too. Still wouldn't be without it though.
