Keeps reving

Just started up "the bane of my life" and it's ticking over nicely then all of a sudden it's starts to over rev upto the point the engine is screaming
Switched it off, checked the throttle and it's in the low rev position, choke is off kicked it over same thing happened
It's a 185, with a 22mm jetex and a clubman exhaust never happened before, had fuel problems before but changed the tank, tap, lines and cleaned out the carb and all was ok
Any ideas gents please

Sounds like an air leak ?

Check round the carb' area first and make sure everything is "air tight".

A leak testing kit is a good investment, I think Darrel Taylor sells them (he's on facebook).

just another thought....take the bellows off and check the slides closed......

If you can, disconnect the throttle cable @ the carb & start so that you're eliminating any shenanigans that might occur through routing et cetera.

Then, if the thing does it again, you know it's not the control side, though if the float is sticking so that fuel runs out, it can go as you describe.

Unfortunately, it does sound as already mentioned, like an air leak.

Check that the outer throttle cable hasn't dropped out of the recess in the headset clamp.

check your carb bowl is filling.

turn fuel on leave for a minute or so turn off disconnect fuel pipe kick her up and if symtoms are the same slow filling could be your problem

This is the first thing I would check!

Massive air leak, e.g. failed inlet gasket or manifold tightening on studs, rather than seat face, etc...?

Sorry it's took me so long to update but been out of action getting a new hip

So I carried out all the checks, tightened up everything that could be tightened up, renewed the inlet manifold gasket and
Renewed the air bellows as I found a split in them.

Hey presto it fires up and ticks over for a full twenty minutes without any problems, I should have done it methodically and identified the problem but was in too much of a hurry

Can I just say thanks for all tips and pointers they were invaluable
