Just treating my Framebreather to a new set of steering bearings, cups and a chrome ring all bought from Scootopia. Just placed them together before inserting in frame and the top bearing cup just slides into the chrome ring with no resistance



whereas the old one that I removed has lots more of an interference fit which seems correct.



The ID of the new chrome ring seems to be marginally bigger than that of the old chrome ring as the old bearing cup also slides straight into the new chrome ring with no interference. I thought bearing fit would be adequate to solve this but hesitate in case there is a potential problem with it.

I wondered whether this is something that has been discussed before and what the outcome was?

Anyone able to offer some advice on this please? Should the top bearing cup be a resistance fit on the chrome ring or is it ok to use if you can just push in easily by hand? All helpful comments appreciated

Yep it should definitely be a tight interference fit- you usually knock it in with a hammer, exactly how much of a loose fit is the new one? You could use stud and bearing fit if it's not to bad...

...try the old track in new ring?, the old one doesn't look to bad...

The old track in the new ring is as loose. The new track in the old ring is tight fit. Loctite Bearing fit may do it but I don't want to risk it if the race then turns in the ring once it's been used. I should have just got the old ring rechromed. You are right in saying that the old track is in pretty good condition really. I'll see what Scootopia say. Thanks for the input

Yeah definitely sounds like the new ring is at fault... Prob best if you rechrome the original or find a better made one obviously....maybe scootopia can send a new (better!) one out?, Plenty of bodges you could do tho... Squash up the ring in a vice and use bearing fit....?
I wouldn't say that about the bottom track But how much load is actually on the top track.... Not a great deal...

Built it using the new chrome ring and and track with loctite bearing fit. Once the chrome ring was in the steering tube and hit home it tightened up against the bearing track so quite happy for now.i'll keep an eye on it once up and running.
