I guess the success of these engine cases will be dependent on price, if they are not that much cheaper than the non-standard from say Gran Turismo then they would be the preferred option for many due to the other benefits they give. Nice to have so many options and competition can only be good for the customer

Cant see that being an issue to be fair, these are being built as standard casings to fill that gap apparantly.

I've been running mugello 186's and now a gt186 triport on my Series 2 with standard S2 sidecasing for some time, never an issue.

Uni have a good track record for quality and value, would imagine this casing will be same.

agree, had good results with Uni stuff, just fitted some engine mounts of theirs nice fit and finish and so much more comfortable than the new Scootopia ones that i had to remove....Ouch!

shipping and import duty will probably determine the final price, it will be interesting for sure. Good chance they will be cheaper if we vote out of the euro and a better trade deal is done with india

why would india give preferential trading agreements to a country of approx 65 million people compared to a market of around 450 million?
surely there are more lambrettas in Europe ie Italy, spain, greece, germany etc etc etc

I'd be surprised if Britain wasn't their biggest market for the sale of the casings........don't think economic trade agreements will be a big factor but if a deal did have to be negotiated without 27 countries having to agree on the deal it must be easier and quicker.

As a member of the “World's biggest Lambretta club by miles” with over 3000 members, I wonder if I am alone in wondering what has happened to the existing tooling in India?

What if ‘we’ were able to buy it before somebody else gets to it?

We wouldn’t be the first vehicle owners’ club to do such a thing to ensure continuity of supply.

I don’t imagine it would be straightforward to arrange it all, what with the likelihood of greasing palms due to the ‘hidden costs’ taken for granted in such a country, but I thought I’d be Devil’s Advocate again. Again, again….

If you look at the state of the castings on some of the later SIL casings and the wrinkling in some of the pressings like petrol tanks and so on, you have to wonder if some of the tooling is worth salvaging.

It really depends on what you intend to do with the tooling and how long this Lambretta bubble will last.
Knocking them out as a commercial concern, probably not worth it to repair them.
Low volume batched runs, repairs made by skilled enthusiasts which is a different proposition.
One thing that would be nice is the Introduction of low cost casings taking the heat out of overinflated second hand prices.
