Insurance renewal

Postby kennystag » Mon Jun 27, 2016 8:17 pm

Hi All,
It is that time of the year again for me. MOT passed no problems. Insurance renewal, I phoned Carol Nash to see what there will be charging me this year, just under £300 they said, I nearly fainted as it was only £120 last year, and they would not come down much, so I politely told them to stuff it. I phoned Footman James, I got a really good deal they asked for LCGB membership number and the price came down further. Fully comp, Agreed valuation, keep the salvage, Legal protection. £120. Very happy with that quote .The new cover will start on my Birthday 3 July.
Cheers

Hi Kenny.

I’d best not p*ss on your chips by telling you what mine was, you being a canny Scot & all that! Despite nine points (Gulp!) @ the time, I would have shopped around a bit more if I was you…. ;)

£111 with European recovery. Peter James.
Rode home from Amiens yesterday with the reassurance that should my misfiring with left hand hovering over the clutch worsen I could get back but I never needed them.

I always shop around for all insurance & never allow automatic renewal.

Perhaps it’s worth trying:

https://www.aquote.co.uk

as I got my agreed value insurance for £70.49, admittedly with a £100 excess.

After restoring my Li 125 Series 3 for the last year, I thought I had better start getting some quotes as the scooter is nearing completion. Rang Carol Nash and they refused to quote me simply because I had fitted a GT186 conversion to my scoot. This seems stupid as surely most of the scooters on the road today have some kind of engine uprating to keep up with modern traffic conditions. Am I wrong?

I had the same with Carol Nash, told me that because I had more than 3 modifications from factory standard (kit, carb, exhaust, Smith's speedo, inline carrier, etc.) that they could not insure it on a classic multibike policy, so wanted to charge me over £500 for my 3 Lambrettas on a standard policy. went to Peter James declared all mods on all scooters, classic policy, agreed values, European breakdown, legal fees, etc. all for £138 this year. That also includes a Watsonian Bambini sidecar as well.

For a company that is supposed to be scooter friendly, Carol Nash seem to go out of their way to rip us off...or at least try

After a problem with Carole Nash a few years ago I'll never use them again. I had to threaten them with legal action to get them to honour a policy they had issued. They had made a mistake and decided to cancel half way through the second year. After the comments about Footman James and there "relay/recovery" I'll be looking around a bit more and Peter James seems like a good place to try.
