Rear hub bearing recommendations, please.

Postby Knowledge » Tue Jul 05, 2016 6:38 pm

My hub seems to move backwards and forwards on the axis of the layshafts. I have tried my selection of "good" pre-used bearings, but they all seem to have he same issue when fitted.

Who supplies a good rear hub bearing, as there are some 'orrible ones out there?

My personal experience has been good everytime with genuine SIL made by JBL (think NBC may have supplied SIL aswell at some point)

Many years ago when there were no so called quality rear hub bearings available I got onto these through AF. Have never used anything else including in my own TS1s and motors built for others.

Got one ready to go in an RB build along with a JBL driveside (again in all my builds)

preparing to be shot down......

Mine does too, on one of my scooters. Done about 2500 miles including this years euro and it's exactly the same.
However, when hot, there's no play at all. On my other engine there is no play at all, hot or cold. Concern for me too but not got to bottom of it yet.

Mine has been like this for a while, and it went to Vienna like it last year. I blagged my way through the MoT last year, but it looks a bit negligent to take it back the following year with the same clunking in the bearing.

Ive changed the rear hub and replaced the rim but it's still the same. Not convinced it's the bearing though. Bare in mind everything is new, gearbox (cyclone 5 speed) lay shaft, bearings etc etc. Any suggestions?? ;)

some have mentioned the sometime overlooked layshaft bearing and race in the endplate as a factor. i changed them when i rebuilt mine as a cyclone along with everything else even though a had all the "wrong" parts mentioned in the manual i.e casa hub bearing, MB layshaft andTS kickstart and yes they did give clearance issues but the hub/wheel is rock solid.

AF are working on a twin race rear hub bearing and will be widely available soon, I believe.
