Best rear shocker

Hi,

After another premature failure of an Escort rear damper I was wondering what people are using that lasts, has a good ride and doesn't cost a fortune. I realise I am going to have raise my price range from the Escort sort of money. Shame really as it was a good damper until it failed.

This is worrying me as I have used and loved Escort shocks for the last 10+ years and had excellent service from them, however, there are more and more failures being reported, which seems to tally with them having changed their design/build. The design changed so that the top suspension eye is somehow bolted to the top element, with a nut being clearly visible, whereas this was not evident on the good old faithful ones, which seemed to be a welded construction. I'm not suggesting that this is the part that is failing, just that this was an obvious design change and does go to show that they have changed... sadly, not for the better (it would seem).

If these are failing semi-regularly, can we not get this feedback back to the manufacturer?

I've got Escort on my bikes and I have been recommending them to others for decades but I will have to reconsider this if the trend continues.

Stopped using Escorts a couple of years ago due to them being a bit sloppy on the road and generally not inspiring confidence. Been using one of Scootopia 's rear shockers for three years now - excellent and for only a few more quid than the Escort shock.Paul

I've recently fitted a Pro tech shock from Allstyles. Spring preload and dampening adjustment. Absolutely transforms the ride of my Series 2.

I've tried a few over recent years and found that (the old) Escort and the Pro Tech are good

Pro Tech works well for me - front and rear some time ago from Rich Presley, however you can get rear direct from Pro Tech now

I've noticed that the 300mm Escort Shocks advertised for Series 3 are of the 'changed' design, where as the 310mm Escort Shocks (both of which I've been selling through the Club Shop and sourced through SR) are of the original design.

I bought an Escort shock in 2010 for my TS1, and it's still on today. So I'm in agreement with you that I've never had this apparent recent issue with this 'bolt and nut' arrangement

I used an escort shock for 10 miles before it broke in half about 6 or 7 years ago. probably less than 10 miles tbh, more like 7 miles.

When my Bitubo finally gave up after 16 years service, I decided to try the reedspeed full adjustable shock. So far it has lasted and performed well.

I've got a Hagon shock on one of mine, which is adjustable and comes in at around the £100 mark, been on the scooter for 3 years now and has been absolutley fine

I have gone for a Scootopia one to give it a try. The Protech ones look good, so may try one of those later.

My first Escort damper lasted several years before it started to lose it's oil, which was fair enough. It's replacement (old type) only lasted about 1k miles before it leaked. Got it changed under warranty and it's replacement leaked in less than 200 miles! I then went for the chrome new design which rode well, but suddenly stopped damping, this time with no loss of oil. Again without doing a big mileage. Luck of the draw I think as to whether you get good/reliable products as per most Lambretta parts nowadays.

Ive also hot a hagon on as well, also for around 3 years and no problems to report.
