Italian reproduction side-panels

I know the country of manufacture is no guarantee of anything, but having seen some awful Vietnamese reproduction SX panels, I was interested to see Allstyles selling Italian ones.

Has anyone any experience of these panels please? Or, know of any non Vietnamese remade ones.

I'll give them a call to see what they say but just after any impartial views.

You mean the oiled ones in bare metal? They ought to be good. At least you can see what you're getting. I think JB Tuning sell them as well. They seem to be agents for Casa now. Mind you I'm not convinced by the Special type panels. They never seem to get the fold quite right.

I use a pair of TSR reproduction panels. These are stamped and come in oiled bare metal, they are a fantastic fit.

Perhaps it's those I'm thinking of then. They would be Asian presumably?

I wouldn't like to say if there made in asia or not,but The Scooter Republic are in Newport South Wales.I also use a headset made by them and it has TSR stamped inside.

Fair comment. After all the proof of the pudding and all that.

Thanks for the replies.

I couldn't get through to Allstyles, although it was around lunchtime. I did, however, get through to JB who confirmed that they were of Italian origin, although he didn't know the actual manufacturer. I have since looked at the pictures on the JB website (they are decent quality pics) and have to say they look pretty good (these are the SX200 ones as it seems both JB and Allstyles are out of stock of the SX150 type).

For £90 each (JB), they appear worth a punt.

I don't know whether the JB ones are the same as Allstyles although I doubt there are too many panel presses knocking around in Italy

This might seem an odd comment, but ‘back in the day’ (I’m old enough to remember!) everybody in my neck of the woods ‘upgraded’ to SX200 panels given the chance.

As an owner of TV, SX & GP200’s, my opinion is that there are none SeXier.... ;)

Yep, these are for an Li 150 Special I'm getting with no panels. I also used to own an SX150 with GP panels :P

So, this will have a 150 badge on the front, 200 on the side, and be running a GT186 8-) :?:

Glad you're sorted. The JB ones do look good I have to say. Mind you the bare TSR ones do too. You'll have to let us know how you get on with them.

Well, I received them this week. I have no original ones to compare them to but the creases are all clearly defined, the folds look well done and they are certainly pretty heavy. There's evidence of a file having been run over them to dress them in a couple of places but, at the moment, I'm pretty impressed.

When I have them mocked up on the scooter with handles fitted, I'll post some pics. That may be a month or so though.

Few years ago,I had bought a similar pair from Italy,
i only sold it because I found an original pair.

Would be interesting to know whether these have been produced using the original tooling (somehow) or a new mould made from an original panel which would be very expensive i would have thought, even so a very big press with a lot of tonnage needed to press these out..

They are modern remade items, nothing to do with original tooling ;)

They look to have been done extremely well. The availability of them in just plain steel shows theres nothing to hide unlike some remade panel work with very thick coats of filler primer..

they do look pretty good in bare metal but as this photo shows they are quite different around the kickstart cutout.

Well spotted. Slightly more angular perhaps? The ones JB Tuning sell would seem to be more rounded.
