I RECENTLY CHANGED THE CHOKE LEVER ON MY GP 125 DL,SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH IT TICKING OVER,I HAVE ADJUSTED THE CHOKE BUT NOTHING HAPPENS,I HAVE CLEANED THE CARB AND JETS,BUT NOTHING CHANGES,THE ONLY WAY I CAN GET IT TO TICK OVER IS TO REMOVE THE CHOKE FROM THE CARB,THEN IT RUNS SWEET BUT IF I PUT A FINGER OVER THE HOLE WHERE THE CHOKE GOES IT CUTS OUT.

THANKS IN ADVANCE.

The new choke lever may not be letting the choke shut off properly,in effect making the choke cable to short, causing the choke to be open all of the time.Check that the choke closes properly when turned off.

I've checked that it's working and the plunger is moving up and down, will the engine run if choke not fitted ?

It will make it difficult to start when the engine is warm. You say that the plunger is moving up and down, but is it closing completely when its turned off.

The plunger may be going up and down, but it may not be closing fully. I prefer a bit of slack in the cable so I know the plunger is fully seated.
If you've replaced the cable, they can be slightly different lengths and you may have one a bit short
