Recent issue when starting, after about 30 seconds or so lots of exhaust smoke, clears after about a mile or so of riding. I suspect worn rings might have something to do with it, compression not great. I'm planning a rebore in a couple of weeks so if thats the reason, it should go away. I'm just hoping it's not the drive side oil seal, but if it was it wouldn't stop smoking once its warm...would it?

All mine smoke when cold.

Drive side oil seal smoke is white, smells 'orrible and is like a smoke screen - nothing like 2-stroke smoke.

Hi If the smoke clears why bother stripping the engine, most lammys do smoke anyway.

Good point and the type of oil used and the ration will have an effect too, always look for 'low ash'

Stripped the top end. Turned out the barrel was mince. Big gouge where plating had worn away by the exhaust port. It's a proper mess. Amazing it even ran.

It never smoked before so I knew something was up. Compression seemed to be getting worse. Oh well time for a new kit.

Langcourts can repair and re-plate the barrel.

It would need at least 1mm boring out, to 71 mm or even 72mm and it'd need a new head. It's recessed. New piston and replated. If I'm going that far I might as well have some porting done. Love the idea but big bucks.

Steel liner and some porting?

You can keep piston size down to 70mm and no new head.

They wont bore it out until its clean,they will weld up the fault and then bore it.

Very Strange how it cleared after a run with that much damage. Good luck with the rebuild.

They repair any damage by welding,then bore it to the original size (you wil have to supply a piston of the original size) and then re-plate the cylinder and hone it to the right size.
