New seat cover strap

Hi all.
Has anybody bothered to fit the repro seat straps that come with the Camb Lambretta self assembly Guilari style seats. Didn't fancy putting a hole for the bolts in case I balls it up but can see after time in the absence of it or a rivet it may splay away from the seat if that makes sence.

There's only one thread on here for seat cover fitting but wanted to ask.

Cheers all

Ash, Torquay

Why bother with a strap? They don't do anything.

True, I don't mind the look and thought that it would pull the seat into the frame where the manufacturer leaves out a rivet.

True enough. I see what you mean about "splaying away from the frame" now. If you do pierce a hole I'd hold the cover tight to the frame and pierce it from inside. You shouldn't go wrong then.

Scootopia do them...

You will need these as well. The frame should have a threaded hole either side to accept them.

Thanks guys, landybretta, link doesn't work mate, what was the product? Bought the Scootopia seat strap washers too to stop it ripping should I pluck up the courage to intentionally rip the seat lol imagine my horror after fitting it thinking...I prefer it without :o
Cheers all.

Link updated. scroll down to item (15a-16). Looks like you may already have these.
You will have to make holes in the seat to insert the screws. I did mine with a leather punch to get clean cut and neat finish. Don't be tempted to use a drill.
Good luck.

Thanks mate
Everybody says use a frigging drill :o phew thanks.....Not sure I have the confidence or bottle to poke some holes now so for now I will probably fit minus the strap for fear of fooking it up as I dont have a leather punch :? Or the cash for a new cover :(

Are the hole punches on eBay any good and did you use a 5mm one with the cover on the seat? The multi ones look a bit flimsy

Cheers

I left the strap off my seat cover and I noticed that a frame clip rivet has been pulled through both sides of my seat exactly where the strap should be fitted .

Looks like the original seat has flexed in the centre and the resultant stress has centred on the 2 middle rivet clips which have ripped through the seat cover :(

Not sure if leaving the strap off would have prevented this or not as I don't know how the strap fits and it is now mislaid.. I suspect the frame needed new springs fitted .

Oh no nightmare mate :o how old or new is your seat bud.....double dilemma for me now :? It fixes via a self made hole then a bolt into the seat frame thread and a bolt added inside

the cover was new 2014 but its only been used for 200 miles !
The frame is 1964 and was a bit rusty and tatty to be honest.
I hadn't realised that the strap is part of the seat cover fixing so now I know why my rivets have pulled though

the frame is the original Innocenti OEM for a 1964 LiS150 special .
The cover is a cheap unbranded cover I bought on ebay .

I've not seen the rivets pull through quite like that
