My Li s is all original, trying to keep it that way as much as possible. The cables are pretty worn. Am I going to have to remove the leg shield and other parts to replace them? Would I be able to just replace inner ones only? Still has the grease fittings on the cables. Is there a special grease gun for those, mine doesn't seem to fit.

I will answer your questions, but not in the order that you pose them.

Yes, you can replace the inners without replacing the outers.

The outers probably need replacing if they are original, but then they won't be as original. However, they will probably be nylon-lined, which is nice.

The greasing points are not very effective. The cables would probably be better if they were oiled, rather than greased. However, the fact that the greasing points were phased out indicates that they were not very effective because the task was difficult (it was probably a cost saving exercise by Innocenti too). The grease points are held in a bracket that stop you replacing the entire cable, a task that doesn't require removal of the legshields using a non-nipple cable.

If you do replace the cables, they will probably be a different colour grey.

You can approach the replacement in a couple of ways. Either from the engine-up, the headset-down or from behind the front wheel going in both directions.

As far as body part removal is concerned, itt all depends how you get on pushing the cables through. Sometimes it is useful to remove the horncasting as things get a bit busy at the top of the fork stem. You can also gaffer tape the new cable to the old and push/pull the new cable through, though this will involve removing the cable oiler support ring, which can be awkward.

It might be worth checking to see if any of the retailers sell cables with oilers in them, if you want to achieve the original look.

I know Scootopia do fake oilers. So at least it will look the part.

One way I've found useful for replacing outers is using a length of garden wire that's over twice the length of the outer. Tie a socket to one end, thread it through the new outer and the old one then pull it through. A bit of tape where they join might stop the new one catching on stuf.

A tandem (cycle) rear mec gear cable is long enough to do this.

Thanks for the input. I may just replace the inner cables. If I do this how will the cable oiler affect the new cables. Will they still need oil or forget about it.

Seems to me there would only be a limited advantage to doing that and you wouldn't have the benefit of the nylon lining. If they are original cables chances are they could be chaffed, so I'm not sure why anybody wouldn't want to change them. There is nothing worse than crotchety original cables. There's probably safety issues as well.

Okay, you settled it for me. Off with the old and on with the new.

I found a set of 4 cables with outer and end caps for mountain bikes, wjich were ideal for when a longer carb cable is required for..... £4. Yes 4 quid! From ASDA!!!
They are really good quality too, but in black.

Ha ha yeah. If you put Lambretta..... into a a search on eBay for example. The prices people charge is to basicly rip scooterists off, amazing!
Ive been looking for a new carb and anything Lammy is pricey, just put in 'carb' and its a totaly different ball game.
Ive just bought a Mikuni carb for........? £17!!!! It may be a fake or a load of crap? But its worth a punt. And i couldnt give to f......s if Mr genuine Itaian thinks its just not the done thing!

If you think lambretta parts are expensive,you want to try buying parts for Harley-Davidson,but at least when you buy something it may be expensive but at least it does the job and it fits.

Took the Mrs shoppin, or I did as I was told and checked to see if the 4 quid cables were not a price tag mix up.
And yes, they are: BELL pitcrew 500 brake and gear cables. 4 cables and outer with barrel cable housing ferrules and cable end crimps.
And still 4 quid!
Wonder what a dealer is charging for 1, but in Italian grey
