AF tubless rims - fixings

Read quite a bit on here and other forums, I've had AF rims for a couple of years now and I've never had any issues but they do have the 2/3 mm gap between the rim and the hub lugs. They have always been fitted with the flat and spring washer that came with the rims but having looked at all the comments I am considering using nord-lock washers instead. I know neither counter the gap and not having previous issues the obvious reply is why change, just got that seed of doubt now with the different views.

I have used Nord lock washers to good effect on SIP and on AF rims but have now opted for K Nuts after recommendations by members on here

Ah, most would say the rim should be supported by the hub in some way rather than putting the entire load on the studs. That would seem logical to me. Particularly with all the torque effects involved. But, I don't think it's ever been quantified other than to say you'll die!

As for Nordlocks, there was talk about this on FB recently with a very convincing video from the company itself. Although, MB haven't had good experiences with them apparently. My own interpretation of it is that Nordlocks might be fine on something that is fixed for a long period, but with something like a wheel rim, which you have on and off a dozen times, the serrated edge might chew into the alloy of a tubeless rim. And, as someone pointed out, there is no substitute for checking your rims on a regular basis.

On my SIP rims I use K-nuts and still use Nordlock washers. Nord-locks are NOT one use only and even if they were it'd cost £3.00 to replace all 8 [less than the price of a pint], and you're not likely to remove the wheels more than 3 or 4 times per year I'd have thought.
Don't use Nord-locks together with other washers though. They do chew into the alloy to a slight degree but I'm presuming that's just a cosmetic detail and not something that's bothered me.
