Alright fellas, quick question about electrickery.

Still rebuilding and decided to put a new loom in and add a battery, wired up using The Stick Miesters guide and all seems well - got spark and headlights work. But as I've not been able to start her up yet, I'm hoping I will get power to the headset once running, because at present, only the headlight feed is live, which must be coming from the battery.
My question is: will the rest of the power come once the scoot is running, or do,I need to do a bit more fiddling?

It may depend on which junction box you're using.

There's a DC type in which all the connectors are cross connected except the greens for this ignition kill circuit.

The standard AC one has them grouped in colour matched pairs.

It's a valid question all the same. Fitting a loom and a battery isn't all that it takes to convert to DC.

If your stator is electronic ignition type then there's a wiring change on the stator itself, then you need to fit a rectifier and DC junction box and a DC horn.

Search on here for 'Wassell' and you'll find plenty of details.

As has been said, it depends. Under a common configuration, the battery supplies power to the horn, side lights and brake lights. The headlight main and dip beam are powered by the AC coils on the stator. Therefore, the main lights will only work when the engine is running.

Having said that, the full DC conversion using a Wassell is the best solution. Search for Anthony Tambs on Facebook.

The wassell mod is well worth considering as Ross Clark mentions the feed wires brown and purple are joined to the wassell red output and battery red.
This is my Gp150 Note the copper wire joining the reds at top position 1 and 2



This is my recently acquired Jet 200

The top pos 1 is battery pos 2 wassell red output 3 and 4 yellow wassell input
Note the lower pos 1 and two are joined then into harness up to head set.Lower pos 3 and 4 are the two brown wires from the stator lighting coils.
Bottom of dog leg has battery isolation switch.Inline fuse in battery lead also inline fuse for alarm and indicators
The original regulator has been removed and the wassell has been bolted on to a piece of 30mm metal bar (B andQ) You can see it in background.Then some spacers and then the spade terminal strip has been bolted on to another length of 30mm bar.( with the remaining 30mm bar you can make a fly wheel holder and fork spring compressor )

Hey Granpar, you have really helped me out, without doing it directly.
I looked up Wassel diagrams and the one I found gave me some pointers, which solved my problem.

So thanks again and it just shows you, that this site IS worth its weight.
Just imagine going to a normal bike shop and trying to explain a Lammy problem? Be about as much use as goin to Halfords for car advice!

Pdsc Chester sorry if I'm being a bit thick but had you fitted a Wassel regulator and added a second yellow wire to your stator plate to convert to DC electrics?

No mate, I've got a 5 pin Regulator and a battery. The Wassel gave me the idea of running all my extras - fuel gauge, rev counter and indicators separately from the loom.

so have you converted your stator? also to run all the things you say you want to you will need a high watt stator your indicators will work best on DC and will need to be fed seprately from your light circuit or you lights will flicker when you indicate I use led bulbs in my indicators and have found these work best on a full DC system

Hi Pd and missing lynx
I have used standard 23watt indicator bulbs with no problems. Indian Gp (points ign.)with wassell and 5 amp /hour battery.

Now fitting something similar to my Jet200 which has Indian electronic ignition.

Hi Grandpa but my point is your on full dc as am I but I found with the lower watt stator there was a dimming of my head light when the indicators are on
