Is just general purpose grease fine to use on hub bearing. My front hub was working excellent, but just needed to split for painting. Just removed the oil seals. When re greasing up the hub components, is leaving in the bearings ok to get enough grease in ? My hub is a later type without the grease nipple. Thanks

Just pump some in through the centre, but why not fit new ones whilst apart as they're only a few quid from a bearing supplier.Get the shielded type and flip the inner seal out before fitting .

...or just get shielded bearings (not sealed - much lower friction!) which come pre-greased & fit them without any seals whatsoever!
That's what some of us have been doing for over 30 years...

Thanks for the advice. Never had a worn front bearing issue. Can they be dangerous and shatter if worn ?

They tend to get a bit noisy and rough and you might notice some wobble before they collapse.
There are two in there I suppose they've probably both done the same miles but the chances of both failing simultaneously are slim.
In any case as has been stated the shielded bearings are only a few quid each so any doubt, change them.
