SSP tank tap fitting

Postby steveg » Sat Feb 25, 2017 7:22 pm

After some help please, I have an SSP tank and I'm having truoble fitting a (Scootopia) fast flow tap. Starting with the nut on the tap and tightening onto the tank it runs off the tap thread before it tightens.
It looks to me like the thread on the tank might be too long, so I measured it and compared against a standard tank. Any thoughts?

Steve, The Scootopia taps are a bit iffy to say the least , There is a current thread on the Scooterotica site about them.

Hi Steve, been rebuilding my scooter over winter so have had to refit my SSP tank and rear exit tap recently.

I found that you have to get the nut on the tap in the correct position on the thread to get it to screw into the tank and pull the tap up how you want it. Think that nut has two separate threads, one to screw onto the tank and the other to pull the tap up? (happy to be corrected on this though). Don't have the tap nut at either extreme on the thread. Easier to do than explain and a bit fiddly but hopefully should work out with a bit of trial and error.

Hope this helps

Tim, I saw that, but think this is a different issue.
Mark, I get what you're saying. I've fitted a few petrol taps over the years and it might be that I'm going about this wrongly.
