I'm rebuilding my early sx200 engine that is fitted with the tv200 central squish cylinder head. Engine is standard with no tuning. Am I going to have any problems with this with modern petrol or do I need to fit a side squish head?
Thanks.

These heads only had modest compression anyway so it should be ok with regards to the fuel type.
TV 200 heads don't allow for centralisation of the spark within the combustion chamber, which is why the side squish head was introduced in my opinion.
Technically, you should calculate your Compression ratio after setting the squish up with the appropriate head gasket irrespective of what type of head you decide to settle on.

someone i know runs a tv200 with original central squish and has problems with detonation has to have lead replacement additive. he won,t change though as it is "original".never understood why they don,t work too well as a lot of the new heads have the central chamber. my sx200 came with a spare tv200 head but i cant imagine it was ever fitted as it is 3/4 through the production

I've run them in recent years, without any issue. However, I wouldn't consider using either head type at anything like the original ignition timing.
