Comfy seat suggestions (Series 3)

I have a standard seat but find I want to sit a little further back than it's designed for. I'm sitting on the wide, middle bit (possibly on the wide side myself too!) and all but on the strap. I don't think removing the strap would help so I'm looking for an alternative. It's highly unlikely I'll have a pillion passenger but I prefer the look of seats that are designed for two, I just need to sit in the middle. Anyone in a similar situation and found a solution?

I've seen that some seats restrict the air intake - I'd prefer one that didn't.

Not sure if this will be of any help, I have a really thin race looking seat, looks nice but is mega uncomfortable...so I brought a gel pack for it, it just lies over the seat for comfort riding and can be removed when you get to where your going...

I brought it from a guy on here £25....

in my experience if you want a comfortable dual seat then a standard sprung seat will have to go.
i bought a remade Pegasus seat and reprofiled it and added more foam, it's trial and error for sure, there is no easy fix, you will have to experiment.
a removable gel pad may be just the answer for you :)

Thanks guys - I can try a gel pad and if not happy perhaps look at the Pegasus.

Peejay - when you say you reprofiled it, do you mean you changed the shape?

Use any seat you like and put an Airhawk on it. 1500 miles round trip to Davos and back and it was fantastic. Easily coped with the hour or so of riding between fuel stops. Prior to the Airhawk I would be struggling after 30 minutes and in agony within minutes of getting back on  Not cheap but they work http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keyw ... bq82tp4p_e

+1 for the Airhawk... Brilliant bit of kit. Neoprene one is the one I purchased and yes it is a bit on the dear side..... Well worth it though just to look after Stephen and the twins!

Coaster & Jeffg - which model(s) did you go for. I know Jeffg went for neoprene, Coaster, did you buy plastic? They seem to come on various shapes & sizes. How do they attach? One picture seems to show long straps down the side of a motorcycle. Could they just wrap round a standard seat?

I went for a 'Large Cruiser Pillion' which is 14" x 11", I ordered a vinyl one for £89 but they sent a neoprene one.....I'm not complaining ;) The cushion is made up of interlinked air cells which you inflate by mouth. The cushion fits inside an outer protective cover which is grippy on the underside so that it doesn't slip on the seat. Mine has 2 adjustable elastic straps that wrap under the seat which are a bit feeble but do their job. You won't be wanting to leave the cushion on the scoot if unattended though as I understand they are a bit desirable with the light fingered brigade  Still only takes a couple of seconds to detach and take with you 8-)

I can't overstate how good it is though, on last years C2C I was in SO much pain due to a massive bruise on my arse, felt like a 3rd butt cheek  On that trip I was having to stop every 20 miles and could hardly walk each time I got off the scoot. It was the thought of doing 700 miles in 3 days to get to Davos in Switzerland for the Euro Lambretta event that forced me to make the investement....They are a lot of money for what they, I doubt if the vinyl ones cost more than £5 to make but anything that makes knocking out 250 miles each day without pain is a must have in my book 8-)

I got a camping roll from argos, trimmed it and stuck a double layer inside the seat cover...big difference, and cheap!

the basic seat comes with 50mm of foam, i added another 25mm under the existing. i did alter the seat base as well just to suit my taste.
this has worked out to be a very costly seat including recovering twice but it's very cumfy now.
we all need something different from the seat, a blow up pad sounds like the easy option to me :)

Same set up here as Colin has detailed...

I use mine on my other motorcycles as well.. takes only a minute to swap it.

The problem with the likes of foam and gel is that after a short while it "bottoms out" excuse the pun..

The Airhawk is in a constant state of movement as you move so the pressure varies across the seating area; it only takes a small amount of air to achieve optimum comfort, it feels a little strange at first especially when riding. When you have the pressure adjusted correctly you feel no discomfort at all even after a long stint on the seat.

Your mates can take the pi55 as much as they like, and mine do!, but at the end of the day you'll be the one without the numb bum! ;)

Couldn't agree more, after the 1,821 agonising miles I did on LeJog, the bulk of the 1,516 miles I did to Davos (once I let it down slightly and found the most comfortable pressure  ) were a breeze with my £89 Airhawk.

Definitely the best £89 I've spent on anything scooter related.

If you can, look for an air hawk in the USA and get it sent over by a mate. I got mine over there for $89 which is a bit of a saving.

I've tried an airhawke and really didn't like it.
I felt totally detached from the bike,
Each to their own.

I carved my seat out of a lump of Hawthorn, and wear motocross shorts (normally under my jeans). I've done three day rides of 400 miles and several 300 milers and had no more problems with that set up than any other seat I've used

I love the airhawk, once I got used to the slightly odd feel of it and realised that less is most definitely more when it comes to inflating it.
