Sip2 Installation.

Hi hoping someone can give me a helping hand!

Setup is Dc BGM stator (Via Kytronik, this is all OK)- Dc Wassel - Battery - inline fuse to headset, I have installed a Sip 2 speedo, Powerbox Cables, black to ground with Red and brown together to Black (Rear light) on headset reason being when ignition switch is turned on then speedo sip unit is turned on. (Therefore no drainage on battery when not in use ).

All is fine regarding lights and horn and working ok, and starting OK.

This is where the fun comes in, the funny thing is when I had the strobe timing on the RPM was showing, after checking that the timing is all well. Removed the strobe now I have lost the RPM!

Cannot work out if this is a fault with the sip2 (As intermittent with the push button when trying to access the menu) or do I need to split the red and brown I know it says this in the book but my reason is mentioned above do not want Sip2 on all the time via the brown Battery DC power!

Kind Regards in advance for any help.

Hi has anyone got any ideas?

I have checked to see if cable has come out of the connector but all is fine. Was hoping I could fix this problem at the headset as all bodywork is back on.

Connect the brown from the SIP to one of the yellows from the wassel. That will give you the RPM reading.

Use the Beedspeed ignition switch that has a feed out for DC auxiliaries on the first (ignition) click. The wiring's a bit ropey but they work fine.

Hi Bike Grim

I was going to do this at first but realised the 'Yellow' goes to the Battery, hence I did not do this as did not want to leave on when not in use, but thank you for tip!

Hi Wack,
Do you know what colour this one is? As all connected now so I presume I would have to break into whatever cable this is?

Firstly your stator yellows are AC before the Wassel so that's the pulse needed for the rev counter. The switch has AC and DC so has the parking light facility but with an extra wire out to run instruments, so depending on how you wire it in you can have all DC or both AC and DC as long as you have a DC feed in the headset. https://www.beedspeed.com/lambretta-ign ... 11448.html

Hi Wack

Thank you for help. Just to confirm so I do not get my wires cross (Pun Intended)!

I connected to the 2 yellows from the stator to the wassel as instructed, with the red coming out to the battery, then a brown with a 'inline fuse' to headset. so only DC going to the headset.

So do I connect to Red from the Sip to the White from the ignition switch? Or both Brown and red from the Sip connected to the White from the ignition switch.

Depending on where your sip control box is you need to spur off one of the yellows before it gets into the Wassel and connect that to the brown on the sip box that'll get your rev counter working

Please excuse my poor wording. I meant connect to one of the yellows from the stator before it connects to the wassel"

Hi Bike grim/ross clark

Is this still applicable even if it is a DC Stator? As that is what is in the bike.

Yes -DC has 2 yellows. Connect to either one of them

Common misunderstanding, the stators are not converted so that they produce AC, they will still output an AC current. The 'mod, is to disconnect one end of the lighting coils from earth and connect to a new additional yellow. The 2 yellows carry the AC to the Wassel unit which is where it gets converted to DC.

Correct, the 'DC conversion' involves removing the earth to the stator base from the end of the lighting coils and connecting an additional (usually) yellow wire to the end of the coil. These stators can still be used as AC by simply connecting one of the yellows to an earth and the other to a Vethpa style regulator.

Hi Guys

Update, Lost my headlights and Sip!

12vDC Setup.

Everything was working fine only done 20 miles, Started engine last night and noticed no lights nor Sip came on Investigated further... Horn, Front, Rear brake lights all working OK.

Could not kill engine when turned key off! Stalled it to start investigation.

Am I right in the following thinking.. Took off headset no loose connections, Checked 12v on Brown coming from battery, all there. So nothing wrong with CDI, etc working back towards engine side, so problem must be in headset. As mentioned 12vdc from loom to headset and 12vdc going down Ign Switch, but when checked with Multimeter and turning key in different positions no 12vdc coming back out from Ign switch!

Any advice please?

If it's the Beedspeed switch check the wires where they go into the back of the switch and also the bullet terminals as they're not the best. If no luck send it back!

Cheers Wack.

So to confirm it will be the Ign/Switch? Just wanted to make sure it could be nothing else.

To be fair Beedys are OK and will swap if needed.

did you hard wire the connections or use the scotch blocks to cut into the power line?

If you didnt hard wire the speedo in... I would bet that your issue is with the scotch connectors
