gas oil ratio

Okay all these gas oil mix make my eyes cross. Here in the states we go by ratio. i don't trust my math. i assume you take 3 or 4 % of a gallon and that's the amt of oil. But to simplify could someone give me the ratio. I think I'm going with 3% mix. I know that's a debate in itself. not going down that road at this time.

Thanks

Strangely enough, we also have a very similar method of calculation over here in the UK. We call it mathematics or 'maths' for short. Just the one 's'

We also use ratios but I'm not sure of what it is you are asking, despite my mild jesting above.

Are you asking for, say, the actual amount of oil in ounces to be added to a US gallon?

If so, to obtain a 3% ratio of oil in a US gallon would require 3.99 (call it 4) fluid ounces or 114 millilitres.

To obtain a 4% ratio of oil in a US gallon would require 5.33 fluid ounces or 151 millilitres.

I really do hope that helps ;)

what I'm asking is the ratio. for a 3% mix is it 32:1? For a 4% is it 40:1. sorry for my ignorance.

AFAIK,2% is 50:1,3% is 33:1 and 4% is 25:1
I am sure someone will confirm this.
Or tell me I am wrong :)

Dave you are correct.

1% is 1 part per 100, hence 'per cent'.

3% is 3 parts per 100 or 1 part per 33.3
4% is 4 parts per 100 or 1 part per 25 etc.

I'd get an oil measuring jug however to save you having to guess -Polini do an excellent one all marked for various oil ratios.

I think any ignorance is on my part, but I couldn't figure out the question, so it's me that should be sorry

The formula to obtain percentage (for any ratio) = 100 ÷ n (where n is the ratio to be obtained)

Example, if 3% is required = 100 ÷ 3 = 33.3:1

Example, if 6% is required = 100 ÷ 6 = 16.7:1
