Vibrations (Not the good kind)

Had a good, quick run on my scoot yesterday. Coming back I'm getting a lot of vibration. It's not the shaking itself to pieces type, but the high frequency numbing your fingers type of buzz that gets quite painful. My first thought was that it might be crank related. But that's not remotely scientific, and I've no way of knowing for sure. Still, I'd be interested to hear any other possibilities before I investigate further.

Put it on the stand without side panels. Rev it up and have a good look round, sounds like some type of mounting is loose or something else is loose.

What are your engine mounts looking like? could be one or just the kickstart side has collapsed. Do you have offset cones fitted? these are prone to rotating and allowing the engine to come in direct contact with the frame

Engine mounts were the second thing I thought of. And they are not Scootopia ones before anyone asks.

I use an extended AF mount on the engine side, and it looks good, with no evidence of being perished or having collapsed. It is interesting though, because it seems more so the engine side. I'd thought that might be my imagination at first. I think I'll have to take a leaf out of St George's book and try it with the panels off to see if anything jumps out at me.

Are you sure it hasn't been like it since you put the long mount on? My vibes increased noticeably when I fitted mine.

Might sound silly but I too had serious vibrations with my scooter and reduced it quite significantly by copper slipping the large bolt that slides through the engine mounting and "just" backing off slightly the locking nuts.

The engine bolt is supposed to be tight as it pulls the cones into the tapered holes in the frame at the same time as gripping the bar. The engine pivots by the 'flex' in the rubber mounts. If the bar/cones are allowed to rotate it could lead to the frame wearing.....Well that's my understanding anyway
