Exhaust nuts

Looking for opinions on which are the best exhaust manifold nuts to use.
I picked up some copper plated exhaust lock nuts on the Euro rally to Switzerland which seemed to work really well, got a few spares as well, lol.
I have however, been told they are crap & brass are better, what are the pros & cons then?

it's my understanding that because they are brass, they dont corrode or bond to the stud/flange as badly as if they were steel.....

Thanks, I believe you are right however, the copper plated ones are plated for this reason also.
I have never seen brass lock nuts and brass being not quite as hard as normal steel means threads can be stripped a lot easier if over tightened.
This is one of the reasons I thought the copper plated lock nuts would be better IMHO.

I could be totally wrong in my thinking here though, any experts out there?

Brass nut , spring washer then flat washer , dab of Loctite on the stud and bob's your uncle , always use a ring spanner or socket so as not to round off the edges and you shouldn't need to shift the nuts unless you want to drop the downpipe , then just use another pair of brass nuts

That would be my understanding too, I have a GTS for commuting that had steel exhaust nuts fitted from new and one has snapped the exhaust stud and the other rusted so badly that the remains of the nut had to be ground off and new studs and nuts fitted. Mind you that is a 4 stroke and it doesn't benefit from 2 stroke dripping onto then through leaky gaskets

Going to give the copper plated lock nuts a try, see how they perform long term. Agree studs should be loktited in also.

Hi Tim, I've used " K " nuts on our Ts ( & Vega ) exhaust studs for years, found them to be excellent. 7mm thread - 8mm spanner, I use a long 6 point socket. Hope this might be of use?....Steve
