Hi all
I have a new casatronic system fitted and running fine.

I have just fitted SIP speedo, all functioning ok, but it kept turning off at low revs. I checked the connections, all fine.

So I checked the voltage at tick over - it's just 7 volts. Is this normal ? It only rises to 11/12 volts at about 1500/2000 rpm.

Is this normal ? I hope not because every time I am stationary at tickover, the speedo turns off and resets ...

Additionally, at the higher revs (1500/2000) when I turn on the lights, the speedo turns off

Common problem with them, I'd consider running the speedo off a battery with the Beedspeed ac/dc ignition switch.

I agree.... You need a fully regulated Charging system and a battery (or capacitor bank) to run SIP speedo's.

So Wack - when you say it's a known problem do you mean the speedo or casatronic kit?

So is the issue the lack of c12V at low revs or that the SIP speedos need a constant higher voltage to operate?

I'm suspecting the Casa kit.
My friend has bgm electronic kit, no battery, and his sip speedo works on tickover. We are going to measure his tick over voltage later today.
I am also going to swap over the regulator to see if that's an issue.

Low voltage at low revs is a known "Characteristic" of this kit.

However is someone else is running one on here I would be interested in the voltage you get a tickover too

Both really, casatronic with low power and the speedo works better with DC. Even on a SIL/ Ducati ignition it's not unusual for the speedo to restart when the lights are turned on. I've used Koso AC to DC boxes to power EGT's and they work fine, whether they'd be ok on the speedo I'm not sure.

Hi Guys, sorry for intrusion.

Having similar problems, my Sip keeps cutting out and killing my lights as well.

Wack has helped me set up the RPM which is now up and running, noticed on way back from MOT that my lights went out and 'lost' Speedo, not a problem I thought as a loose connection but when I investigated no loose connection and Sip turned back on when turned on Ignition and all fine when running at high/low revs.

So now need to investigate further tomorrow, if I get the chance!

The SIP regulator (that's the little black box) needs a constant 12-16V DC to operate properly and supply the clock with a regulated constant supply. Interruptions in this supply will cause the clock to re-initialise and be annoyingly unreliable.

I'm not a fan of connecting the RPM sense wire to a fixed or floating output from the generator coils. The voltage can be prohibitively high and there is a good chance that it can fry the SIP regulator.
An opto-coupler can be used to safely ensure that the RPM input to the SIP regulator box is not more than 12VDC.

Sorted it now. Fitted a battery and switch.

Works a treat.

Delboy asked for a bit more info so here it is...

I bought a burglar alarm 12 v, 2.1a battery . I made a bracket and secured the battery with Velcro straps.
I then wired the battery charge output from the rectifier, to the battery positive terminal via a 1.5A in line fuse.
I wired the battery negative terminal to a earth wire attached to the earthing point on the frame.
I then ran a wire to the headset via another 1.5A fuse from the battery positive terminal

I was given an old ignition switch. I used a multimeter to work out the switch positions, connected the positive battery wire as the power input, and the wire that corresponds to fully clockwise as the switched power feed to the SIP power unit.

I also connected the green kill wire to the switch so I can turn off the engine when the key position is "off", as I have replaced the button with the switch.

So I turn the key fully clock wise, the speedo fires up powered dy the battery, and is unaffected by lights or low revs.

Cheers for info wired nearly the same about from 'in-line fuse' from Wassel to battery, but I do have one from Battery to headset. I was wondering if this would back a difference for the cutting out, but cannot see how as got the in-line fuse from battery in place??

Had a good look over the weekend and everything seems OK, but cannot take out to check if still doing it yet as waiting for REG number.

Update, my Sip is now working all Ok thanks to Wack and Co/Others.

Had A good run out today and did not turn itself off!

Speed is also spot on with GPS!

been given the right runaround on this scooter!


First it was my ignition switch, I knew this by putting a multi meter across and turning the key, ALL cables open circuit in every key position, took this back. Checked in shop and some worked and some did not, so CHECK before buying, and check what it is meant to do!

Got my lights back working and Sip working, then the Menu button did not work, borrowed one from a friend and put on my scoot and hey presto the menu button works so will also be taking this back to the shop!

Complete nightmare, worst case is having to keep taking Flyscreen on/off.
