M8 Exhaust Stud
Typical !...just built a new engine and the only stud I didn't have reason to check on the strip down as it didn't have a stud in it and this happened.
Can it be patched up with JB Weld or something similar ?

I'd get it done properly, the repair will nag at the back of your mind every time you use it if you don't.

You might be able to carry out some sort of a repair with a JB weld type material if you follow the instructions, make sure it's really clean & drill & tap it correctly & then probably fit a thread insert as well just to be sure.... " JB weld has its place especially repairing materials that are difficult or impossible to weld but it definitely has its limits despite what the manufacturer may claim.. Get it welded by someone who know's what the're doing & repair it right first time.

Btw that exhaust stud should only be M8 unless you're using some type of repair stud... or is that how the casing got damaged?

your right it really needs to be repaired properly...either that or I might just strip it and rebuild into another set of cases.

The ideal repair is to have it welded as others have advised.

However, if you were in the scenario where that were not possible & also a very careful, competent craftsman, you could drill to make it a 'through' hole (final size Ø6.8 mm) & tap M8 to take a longer stud. I have known such a repair last years as the long stud was Loctited into place, was absolutely central/perpendicular & was also built up in the area of the missing alloy with a good epoxy such as Araldite.

I'm only suggesting a non preferred option because I've had to resort to such measures in the past when my only means of transport was the one Lambretta....

I have successfully used JB Auto weld on an exhaust bracket, a cylinder stud thread , a crankshaft keyway and many other parts. Clean, clean, clean. Cut a notch to ensure the mix goes well in. Mix well and mix again and apply. Let it cure for several days. Others might not but I would and with confidence.
