Has anyone tried extending the fork tube thread and extending slot as an alternative to cutting stem to shorten forks?

I've not known it done but sounds fine in principle if you have the thread cutting dies to do it (identical threads to SKF type KM locknuts)

& enough of a turned back portion to take the thread (25 mm height difference)

However, similarish, I think somebody local managed to fit Serveta forks to a GP frame with a little ingenuity, though might have 'cheated' a little with a bit of shimming under the bottom race cone.

That's maybe not such a bad idea. By getting an inch packer made and even welding it in then just slide lower bearing cup on. As long as there is enough on fork base. Extended forks on a budget.

I doubt you'd need to go anywhere as much as an inch for a packer.

I like the idea of running a die down the thread to extend it as a better option (as if I have any say in the matter  ) & can say that it would work on the first forks I found in the garage.

The thread is M30 x 1.5 & I know that is common to the KM6 locknuts used on bearing shafts, axles & the like.

There will be somebody that works in an engineering machine shop that has access to a die or die nut, or the Chinese will sell them on eBay....

Good Luck & let us know how you get on!

Wouldn't the top of the fork stem interfere with the speedo housing if it was an inch longer?
There's not a lot of room in there as it is
