I have used Putoline TT Scooter 2 stroke oil for years without any problem. This morning I opened a new, sealed 4lt container and the oil was of a very different consistency to normal. It's much runnier, looks thinner and it doesn't "cling" to the sides of a bottle like it used to. I haven't risked using it and it's going back to the shop tomorrow. I just wondered if any one else has noticed this; have they changed the formulation or is this a faulty batch? I don't want to risk my recently rebuilt engine finding out!

Has it got thinner in this hot weather.I noticed that my 2t oil was a lot thinner and easy to pour,I've just put it down to the weather.

Check the bottle to see if it says pre mix Normally thicker or Injector Thinner. Rock do both and I have picked up the wrong one and been assured its all fine to use. More rev and go type bikes around that need the thin stuff. But ask an adult

The word from my local Putoline rep is that the oil "is an SAE20 viscosity, which it has been since 2001. It will certainly appear thinner in warm weather".

So now you know.

I thought it might have been down to the hot weather, but the last of my "old" oil hasn't been affected. The shop I bought it from was closed yesterday so will take it back today.

I use Exol Optima from eBay. Highly recommended on this forum and a fraction of the price of "known" brands. This is also much less viscose than other brands, but I have had no issues with the fuel/oil since I started using it.

I don't think viscosity is the issue here, otherwise we would be told to stop using the oil above 22degrees Centigrade (or whatever). Do you think that the viscosity is that important once you have diluted it at 40:1 (or whatever)?

All I know is that the oil that I have been using for the last 10 or 12 years without a problem has now changed. Without a satisfactory explanation as to why, I'm not prepared to carry on using it. The shop I bought it from refunded my money, opened another container to compare, which turned out to be the same. I tried another local scooter shop who phoned Putoline to get their view. They are sending a rep in to collect samples that I left with them and will then respond accordingly. For the time being I have switched to another brand.

I wouldnt spend the money putoline want for TT scooter or Scooter now.

I used TT sport in my TS1s and tuned Vespa for years believing it to so good - when it went extremely expensive I changed to Exol Semi Synthetic after a decent amount of research and discussion with Lubetech and some testing on other peoples bikes

I would agree with others that it is not as thick as the TT Sport but i`m on my second 25 litre barrel

Used in my friends Rapido, Malossi 172, Stage 4 GP200 and my tuned P2 and TS1s

i use 2% in the Vespa and 3% in TS1s

If you are spending more than £6 a litre on oil you are wasting your money. I've been using SIP oil from Germany for the past six years and never had a problem. TS1s and RB. I you use expensive oil you're not travelling far enough.

I use the same company's fully-synthetic oil:

20 litres for £76.41 delivered, using the discount code from Scooterotica, se001. So that's £3.82 per litre for fully-synth 2T.

The same website also has the semi-synthetic oil at £84.15 delivered (using the discount code), so cheaper than Ebay at £3.36 per litre. For the extra 46p per litre, I think the fully-synth is worth it.

It's good stuff, I have been using it for some time now.

Groundsman all the way, ive been using it since 2010, its cheaper than the exol if you buy in quantity..

I had to get another 30 litres last week for £96 from tines because the 30 litres I got in January has already all gone lol.

Agree with Eden, I think most of the club have used Groundsman in all types of scoots from Lui50 to a Ts1225 and RB250 for the past 3 or 4 years with no issues.
Usually pay around £20 at the most for 5 litres though.

Yep, groundsmans for me. 1000's of miles on it with no problems.

Mind you there was a fella I was behind on this years C2C on a TS1 200 who was using Tesco's semi synthetic and had been doing so for ages.

Mate of mine uses this expensive fully synth at £18 a litre in his RB240. Stubborn sod will not see he's mugging himself off.
