Help!!! I would be very grateful for any help or pointers as to what the problem may be with my 62 S3 LI150. Had it 2 years and had about half a season out of it before starting problems and erratic running when started. I have recently fitted a new SH1/18 Dellorto carb, I have good spark and I'm pretty certain it's not a fuel issue. When I kick her over now I hear a pop from the engine side as she tries to fire and getting white smoke from the exhaust on each kick. I'm short of the time and skill set to tackle this and desperately wanted her running for Brighton. I would be extremely grateful for any help or advice.
If you had a problem previously but didn't resolve it then I'm guessing it might not just be the passage of time. If the fuel is ok then most likely contenders are ignition issue or carburation. You need to give us details of the ignition being used before we can offer much advice.
Give us more details about the spec' of the motor and we might be able to give you some better advice as to what possible causes are.
The white smoke might be indicative of a failure of the drive side oil seal. These can perish, even when the bike is unused, but before you despair, give us the spec of the engine and the type of ignition (points, 4 pole, 6 pole, electronic, Electrex, Varitronic etc).
Thanks guys but I'm afraid you will need to excuse my ignorance here, I believe it to be 6 pole being a 3 series, there is certainly no electronic ignition only my tired leg! Does this help or what do I need to look for to supply the correct info?
All lambretta scooters are started with the kick starter. If you have an ignition key you,ll need to turn it to position 3 fuel on choke on then kick.Take the right hand side panel off and follow the HT lead from spark plug back towards rear mudguard. If this enters a blue or black plastic box then you have electronic ignition. If the HT lead ends in aluminium cylinder then you have points ignition. You will find The complete spanners manual, by Martin Round invaluable.
