Hi Guys just looking for general census on Carb Filters,
Looking at putting a breath sweet filter on my scoot but wonder Is it really worth it in this country?
I have had one before but realised the side panel was squishing the elbow on the hose, therefore every time I stopped at a Junction I lost power pulling away, took it off and everything was running fine.
As I am booked in for a Dyno at weekend, looking for some answers.
What I have noticed on my new build is the elbow will not be squished this time, but has got me thinking is it necessary at all.
Will only be doing around 4-5000k a year. A Mixture of A/B roads.

It all depends whether your engine is getting enough air, which will show up on the dyno run.I had to fit one to get the carb to be correct. You may not need it .

A breath sweet will touch the panels unless you have a nice short inlet manifold.... the best one I've found is the mb one..assuming you have a phbh.

Filters are a personal choice.
Up until this year I've run without one and my engine wear has been monitored by the kits designer.
Ring wear is the same as non filtered kits and new rings brings it back within tolerance so no bore wear.
No graining in the barrel.

Is that the Avanti Derek?

You can also read how some of us have covered similar ground under:

Had my Avanti Dyno'd 2 months ago. Was running perfectly well with a breathe easy filter on (although marginally crushed the elbow by the panel). The dyno operator suggested it would run better without a filter so taking he's advice and after various jet size changes (122 down to 115 main jet) the job was done but it only achieved extra 0.5 bhp with panels off on the dyno exercise .....panels back on after which I presume must reduce performance (just wondering therefore should it not be dyno'd with panels back on to give a true road reading ?? )
Conclusion on riding to Belguim thereafter, it was slightly better on pick up in first and second gear but nothing otherwise.........personally I must confess it definitely run better with the filter on and was a first time starter (not now)

so gonna get the MB inlet and use it again see how it fairs.
