SIP speedo, standard speedo cable.
Seems that the inner isn't long enough so after a while slips down and doesn't sit far enough up to drive the speedo. (Had been working fine for 700 miles)
Was going to trim the outer but it seems short enough already so I'm wondering if I could get a shim or 2 to put under the top end of the inner.

Yes, why not. I’m sure when I was in the cable making business we put washers under the crimped shoulder to act as a smooth shim. Just don’t put so much ‘shimming’ that it binds tight.

I can't see that a shim would work, it's not uncommon to have to trim speedo cable outers are you sure the olive at the bottom end is holding the outer deep enough in the hub?

The top end ‘height’ is fixed due to the crimped on shoulder. You can alter the amount of inner protruding from the bottom by cutting the outer but that’s not his issue.
