Scooter runs with ignition turned off?????

So my scooter was fine last week, got it MOT'd, took it out a few times to start running it in after top and bottom end rebuild. Took it for a run today and it carried on running after ignition key turned off. I'm not talking pre-ignition here due to air leak but ignition key has no effect, I can start and ride scooter without key in ignition. I'm using a Scootopia ignition barrel, I don't want to blame the barrel yet as I haven't carried out any other checks but was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem???

has your green wire come out the cdi or wire block in the head set?

I haven't done any checks yet, I did re-solder all of the spade connectors last week so maybe the green is not corrected to the CDI properly, I'll check tomorrow. Thx for the tip.

I had exactly the same problem a couple of weeks ago
Turned out the earth wire from the ignition switch was not earthing properly
Hope this helps

Thx, I'll do some checks in time. On the flip side at least it starts without any problems :D

I checked this today, the green wire is connected fine....when i disconnect it however the engine dies. I need to check a wiring diagram...

There should be TWO green wires in the CDI, one comes up from the stator and the other goes into the main loom and runs up to the ignition switch. When you turn the key to the off position it connects through to earth thus shorting the ignition.

Ok thanks, this could explain things. I've found a photo I took with the original dodgy wiring and, as you say, there is more than one green wire connected to the CDI, in fact in the photo there are 3 (2 connected together?), so I've obviously done something wrong, I'll have another look tomorrow, thanks for the help.

Sorted, I checked my wiring and found a rogue wire disconnected that was also connected to the regulator and the loom, presumably going to the headset. Connected it to the CDI and ignition barrel works as it should, thanks for your help.
