Hi, just after a bit of advice, had the mag flange off my engine this afternoon to fit a new mag gasket & repack the bearing with grease & when it came to tighten everything down one of the mag/crankcase nuts wouldn't tighten & just kept spinning, tried a new nut but still no joy, fitted a slightly longer stud which bit slightly but still not enough to hold it tight just wondered what my options are? can it be taken out to m7 ? or does it need an insert? thanks for any info

Never been a great fan of helicoils for no other reason than ones others people have put have come out when I been working on their scooters. Perhaps they were not fitted properly. Anyone had any experience with inserts?

I did exactly that on a recent build as one of the stator threads stripped. I bought an M6 kit off ebay which came with the drill, tap, insertion tool and insets. Very easy job, took no time at all. It it comes out with the bolt nest time I'll just fit a new insert.

Thanks for all your replies, the kits do seem cheap enough to buy, think I will give it a go, if I'm not successful then I will let an adult have a go thanks

Honest, it's dead easy. Just make sure you put the coil the right way round. Hard to explain in words but there's sure to be a YouTube video.

It's worth pointing out the kits usually come with the shortest depth insets,longer ones are easily obtainable .
The company I used was called Essex Fasteners I think.
Cheap as chips and very handy.
